Join Catholic men where we take responsibility for learning, living, strengthening, and sharing our faith.

Our Lady of Good Counsel OLGC Men's Prayer Breakfast

Our Lady of Good Counsel's Men's Prayer Breakfast is a collection of everyday “Regular Joes” who want to learn more about the Catholic faith and discuss the common issues that face all men.  Many members have never attended any other “church-related event” outside of Mass, while others are far along in their faith journey.  Whatever the case is with you, you’ll feel welcome!  While not a true prayer group, bible study or men’s club, they have elements of all.

The OLGC Men's Prayer Breakfast mission is "Catholic men inviting men to a comfortable environment where we take responsibility for learning, living, strengthening, and sharing our faith, which will in turn make us better men, leaders, husbands, fathers, and followers of Jesus Christ.”

Newcomers are always welcome! This group meets weekly on most Wednesday mornings from 5:45 - 7:00 AM in the Our Lady of Good Counsel parish Social Hall.  How to join or find out more information? Learn more here.

Below are the books to choose from starting July 2023. Get a 15% discount off your purchase by adding the coupon code OLGCMPB upon checkout. You can choose to have the book delivered to pick up at the next breakfast meeting, pick up at the store, or have it shipped (additional cost).

BEST SELLING BOOK WITH OVER 1 MILLION COPIES SOLD WORLDWIDE

Are you compelled to tell your side of the story?
Do you fight thoughts of suspicion or distrust?
Are you constantly rehearsing past hurts?
Have you lost hope because of what someone did to you?

The Bait of Satan exposes one of the most deceptive snares Satan uses to get believers out of the will of God--offense. This trap restrains countless Christians, severs relationships, and widens the gulfs between us. Jesus said, "It is impossible that no offenses should come" (Luke 17:1). Although you will encounter offense, you can choose how you will react.

In this new twentieth anniversary edition, John Bevere shows you how to identify the traps ahead of you and escape the victim mentality. With declaration-style prayers and testimonials from people whose lives have been changed by his message, this book will inspire you to stay free from offense and its destructive power.

Don't let anyone affect your relationship with God!

Eucharist

Eucharist
Barron, Robert
$19.95
For many Catholics today, the Eucharist is merely a symbol of Christ, and the Mass is merely a collectivity of like-minded individuals gathering to remember his life. But the truth of what is made present on the altar, and what the faithful dare to receive into their bodies and souls, is far more strange and beautiful. In this engaging theological treatise, Bishop Robert Barron offers a reintroduction to the ancient meaning and power of the Eucharist. Through a threefold analysis of the Eucharist as sacred meal, sacrifice, and Real Presence--distinct but tightly interwoven motifs grounded in Scripture--Bishop Barron draws readers into the profound truth flowing out of Jesus' words at the Last Supper: "Take, eat; this is my body. . . . Drink from it, all of you; for this is my blood of the covenant." We are not merely invited to remember Jesus or imitate his moral example; we are invited to the grace of communion--and ultimately, to the realm of God--by eating and drinking the very self that he offers in sacrifice.

Holy Is His Name: The Transforming Power of God’s Holiness in Scripture

Holy Is His Name: The Transforming Power of God’s Holiness in Scripture
$22.95

Catholics are taught to prize holiness—to admire it in others and to strive for it in their own lives. But we're never quite told what holiness is. In Holy Is His Name: The Transforming Power of God's Holiness in Scripture, Scott Hahn seeks to define the term in order to help us better understand our relationship with holiness. Tracing the meaning of holiness first through the Old Testament and then the New, Hahn masterfully reveals how God gradually transmits his holiness to his people—through creation, right worship, and more—and ultimately transforms them through the sharing of his divine life.

It Is Right and Just: Why the Future of Civilization Depends on True Religion

It Is Right and Just: Why the Future of Civilization Depends on True Religion
McGinley, Brandon
$22.95
Is religion a right given to us by the state? Is it an opium for the masses? Is it private opinion with no role in the public sphere? In It Is Right and Just, bestselling author Scott Hahn and Brandon McGinley challenge our idea of religion and its role in society. Hahn and McGinley argue that to answer questions over religious liberty, justice, and peace, we must first reject the insidious lie perpetuated by secular-liberal culture: that religion is a private matter. Contrary to what political commentators and activists say, religion is not only relevant to justice and law, but is necessary for civilization to thrive. Recover the public nature of true religion, It Is Right and Just argues, and watch as a revolution unfolds.

Jesus and the Jewish Roots of Mary: Unveiling the Mother of the Messiah

Jesus and the Jewish Roots of Mary: Unveiling the Mother of the Messiah
Pitre, Brant James
$24.00
"Brant Pitre is one of the most compelling theological writers on the scene today." -Bishop Robert Barron

Bestselling author of Jesus and the Jewish Roots of the Eucharist casts new light on the Virgin Mary, illuminating her role in the Old and New Testaments.

Are Catholic teachings on Mary really biblical? Or are they the "traditions of men"? Should she be called the "Mother of God," or just the mother of Jesus? Did she actually remain a virgin her whole life or do the "brothers of Jesus" refer to her other children? By praying to Mary, are Catholics worshipping her? And what does Mary have to do with the quest to understand Jesus?

In Jesus and the Jewish Roots of Mary, Dr. Pitre takes readers step-by-step from the Garden of Eden to the Book of Revelation to reveal how deeply biblical Catholic beliefs about Mary really are. Dr. Pitre uses the Old Testament and Ancient Judaism to unlock how the Bible itself teaches that Mary is in fact the new Eve, the Mother of God, the Queen of Heaven and Earth, and the new Ark of the Covenant.
